History
The college began to function since August 1979, initially housed in the Municipal City High School located in Rajabagicha, the nerve centre of the Cuttack City braced by the Baimundi Marg (ring road) along the city’s southern fringe and graced by the historic river Kathajodi. It started functioning with a dimunitive student strength in Humanities stream under the patronage, Munificence and stewardship of some local gentry and some prominent persons of this millenium Silver City who were deeply concerned with the lamentable lack of accomodation facilities in the realm of higher education to meet the demands of the fast growing number of aspiring students of the city.
The City college was later renamed as Netaji Subhas Memorial City College in sacred memory of the Greatest Indian Nationalist and the Son of the soil, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and as a befitting tribute to his perennial, evergreen, resplendent memory in the initial stages of its opening imparting instructions in Humanities with a few students has now burgeoned up into a full fledged degree college with an impressive students strength of nearly 3500 spreadover into Humanities, Science and Commerce streams with Honours teaching facilities along with the much needed vocational subject and at present it has carved out for itself a position as spectacular and distinctive seat of learning reckoned as one of the leading institutions for Higher Education not only in the city but also in the state.
The NSM City College is graced with a dedicated, and disciplined bond of staff members redolent of esprit de corps. The college is having a well equipped Library with a very unique collection of rare reference books catering to a great extent to the needs of its curious students pursuing their studies in all the three faculties Humanities, Science and Commerce.
The College Science Laboratories are well set with the state of the art facilities that have earned laurels and commendations from the visiting dignitaries from time to time.
The college is affiliated to both the council of Higher Secondary Education, Orissa and the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in +2 Arts, Science, Commerce level and +3 Degree level respectively with Honours teaching provisions in all subjects.
Some distinguished persons of the locality and social activists have taken keen interest in ensuring allround development of this once fledgling college into its present state of glorious development and the college has been making rapid strides turning itself to be a cynosure of all eyes as a centre of academic excellence.
The students of the city college have earned an enviable reputation of being the most disciplined and law abiding ones and the members of the staff have contributed their mite in ensuring maintenance of an academic aroma that often spontaneously attracts students from afar.
NSM City College is a fully aided educational institution ever since 1989 and financial stringency is no more a major bottleneck in opening up fresh and much demanded, job oriented popular subjects to extend tangible benefits to the students of the city.
